The international financial services company Aegon is relocating its corporate headquarters to New York City. Aegon, originally founded in the Netherlands and specialising in life insurance, pensions and retirement plans, has chosen 125 West 57th Street as its new headquarters. The company signed a lease for 20,600 square feet in the property located in Manhattan's Plaza District, which is owned by Alchemy-ABR Investment Partners and Cain International.
According to the landlords, the company will occupy two floors in the recently completed, 30-storey office building. The asking rent and the duration of the lease were not disclosed. However, the average asking rent for prime office space in the Plaza District was $97.23 per square foot in the second quarter of 2026, according to research by Colliers.
Mitchell Konsker, Kristen Morgan, Christine Colley, Kate Roush and Dan Turkewitz of JLL represented the owners in this transaction. Aegon was advised by Barry Zeller and David Downey of Cushman & Wakefield. Kristen Morgan commented that the leasing momentum at 125 West 57th Street demonstrates how much tenants value new construction — something the Manhattan market offers little of. Aegon's decision for this location is further proof of how well the building is performing in the current market.
Strategic Relocation and Rebranding
This agreement is part of Aegon's plan to relocate its executive and legal departments from the Netherlands to the US. Upon completion of the transaction, which is expected by 1 January 2028, the company will be renamed Transamerica, as announced by the owners. Aegon already operates Transamerica in the US. Effective 1 January 2027, Will Fuller, the current CEO of Aegon Americas, will be appointed as the new President and Chief Operating Officer of Aegon.
Christopher Gherlone, Partner at Alchemy-ABR Investment Partners, expressed pride in a statement at welcoming a company with such a strong global profile to the property. Aegon's decision to choose 125 West 57th Street as its new headquarters is a significant endorsement of the building, its prime location and its high-quality offerings. This underscores the property's status as a top destination for leading companies in New York.
Magnet for Renowned Companies
Following the move, Aegon will join several other tenants in its new Midtown building. These include investment firms Anchorage Capital Advisors, Eldridge Industries, Jadian Capital and Kingdon Capital Management, as well as the healthcare network AdaptHealth.
Eric Poretsky, Senior Managing Director at Cain, welcomed Aegon to 125 West 57th Street. He described securing a tenant of Aegon's calibre as a significant milestone for the building and further affirmation of its position as one of the leading office destinations in the Plaza District. This lease builds on the exceptional leasing momentum of recent months and demonstrates the continued demand from high-quality tenants for new-build, prime office space.
