The Alois Müller Group, headquartered in Ungerhausen, a family-owned company with 1,100 employees and 16 branches in Germany, has made a strategic move towards international expansion. By acquiring the low-temperature energy solutions division of the Danish company Aalborg CSP, the group is extending its activities beyond Germany's borders for the first time. These technologies are considered central to the transformation of the energy and heating sector.
With the establishment of aalborg hc systems and its location in Aalborg, Denmark's fourth-largest city, the Alois Müller Group is expanding its presence in international markets. This represents a deliberate reorientation in the company's over 50-year history. Andreas Müller, managing partner of the Alois Müller Group, described the acquisition as one of the most strategically significant steps for the company. He emphasised that it secures a lead in expertise for the planning and implementation of renewable energy solutions. Given that energy demand in Germany is still largely met by fossil fuels, Müller sees considerable potential for green solutions in the context of the heating transition, which he believes will shape the next 20 to 30 years. Andreas Müller, together with Jes Donneborg, a former Vice President of Aalborg CSP, is a managing director of the newly founded Aalborg Heating & Cooling Systems ApS.
Jes Donneborg and his 20-strong team possess expertise in low-temperature solutions. They have completed more than 25 large-scale projects in the industrial district heating network segment across Europe. Various technologies were used for heat generation, including geothermal heat pumps, solar thermal systems, and biogas heat pumps, often in combination. A key component of the aalborg hc systems portfolio is earth storage for seasonal heat storage. These diffusion-open covers for the storage units were acquired by Aalborg from the former Arcon Sunmark and are patent-protected. An example of this technology is a storage system in Langkazi, southern Tibet, with a volume of 15,000 cubic metres. This system stores excess solar heat in summer and feeds it into the district heating network in winter, enabling 90 percent of the city's heating demand to be met regeneratively.
Jes Donneborg expressed positivity about the partnership with the Alois Müller Group and Andreas Müller, whom he described as a pioneer in green energy in Germany. He highlighted that the partnership also represents future security for his employees. Donneborg, who is now 72 years old, sees good prospects through the collaboration for his team to transfer their established competencies in Denmark to other markets and to further enhance quality. In doing so, they will benefit from the Alois Müller Group's experience in plant engineering.
With the aalborg hc systems brand, Donneborg and Müller intend to offer a comprehensive range of services. This extends from holistic consulting and the development of technology-neutral district heating concepts to complete project management with turnkey commissioning. Andreas Müller predicts that the Danish team's expertise will help secure market share in Germany. Furthermore, he sees significant market potential for orders in Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. He justifies this by citing the high wage levels there, which makes the Alois Müller Group competitive as an efficient plant constructor. Additional orders are intended to ensure the utilisation of manufacturing sites in Reichenau (Saxony) and Ungerhausen. Müller also sees marketing potential for mobile energy centres in Scandinavia.
