In Fusch an der Großglocknerstraße, the Designer Motel glockna is in its final construction phase. The opening of the hotel project is scheduled for mid-December 2026. The project is being realised by local entrepreneurs Helmut Wimreiter and Nicole Köhlbichler, who also run Event-Gastro GmbH, including the restaurant Die Fliegerei at Zell am See airfield, as well as the catering company Event-Cars. The new build represents the two owners' most extensive hospitality project to date.
The accommodation concept is designed for a total capacity of 100 beds. The layout comprises suites, lofts, and five detached so-called BergHäuser, offering occupancy options for one to six people. The development is complemented by a wellness area with an infinity pool, the in-house restaurant glockna, and an underground car park for arriving guests.
Year-round focus and expanded infrastructure
The operators aim for continuous occupancy across all seasons, projecting around 30,000 overnight stays per financial year. Even ahead of opening, the property is recording strong booking demand for the upcoming holidays and private winter celebrations. At the same time, initial reservations and enquiries have been received for the summer season, including from cycling groups, individual travellers, and companies for corporate retreats.
To meet the requirements of corporate clients and seminars, the property features modern conference rooms as well as additional sports facilities such as a gym and a yoga room. In addition to guest spaces, 14 separate residential units are being built on the site to serve as staff accommodation for the property's approximately 20 employees.
Location profile in the Hohe Tauern National Park
Situated in the middle of the Hohe Tauern National Park, the property benefits from direct access to the high alpine panoramic road. As host Martin Gröbner explains, the location appeals equally to nature and active holidaymakers as well as motoring enthusiasts. The objective is to combine the alpine surroundings with a contemporary architectural language and generate momentum for regional suppliers and service providers.
