easonably-priced housing has become increasingly elusive. If you're struggling to find affordable options in your current area, it may be time to consider relocating. Before making the move, conduct thorough research as housing costs vary significantly across the US. As of October 2024, the average home value in the US is $359,099, according to Zillow's Home Value Report.
To provide insight into more affordable cities with a good quality of life, GOBankingRates spoke with Alexei Morgado, realtor and founder of Lexawise. He recommends three cities that balance budget-friendly housing with desirable living conditions.
One such city is Toledo, Ohio, where the average house price is around $190,000. Morgado praises its "approachable atmosphere" and notes that taxes and insurance are relatively low, making it an attractive option for potential buyers. Additionally, 41.7% of homes sold under list price in the past year, although they tend to go pending quickly, with a median of just eight days.
Wichita, Kansas, is another city Morgado recommends, citing its ideal mix of affordability and quality of life. With home prices near $218,000 and reasonable rent, it's an attractive option for first-time buyers. The community is also described as "nice" with various cultural activities and economic opportunities available. Homes in Wichita tend to sell quickly, pending in a median of 11 days, but 41.9% of sales are under list price.
For those seeking a more innovative city, Morgado suggests Huntsville, Alabama.
