A
mazon is downsizing its presence at a Seattle building, Met Park North, as it continues to shift employees across Lake Washington to Bellevue. The company has allowed its lease on five floors of the 189,500-square-foot building to lapse, relocating around 800 workers to other parts of greater Seattle. Amazon had initially planned to vacate the space in March but renewed its lease for two more years before ultimately deciding to exit.
The move is part of a broader trend as Amazon expands its headquarters definition beyond its core campus in Downtown Seattle. The company's "Puget Sound headquarters" now encompasses a growing campus in Bellevue, where it plans to station over 25,000 employees by next year. By December, there will be around 17,500 employees in Bellevue, with the company still building offices in the city.
The Broderick Group is listing 147,000 square feet of office space at Met Park North for lease starting December 1. Nearby, Pinterest has just signed a deal for 21,500 square feet at Met Park East, marking its first permanent office in Seattle. Other tenants in the area include Axon and Amazon's own offices in Redmond, where around 2,000 workers are based.
