pollo Bagels, a popular spot in the West Village, has found itself at odds with its landlord over customer lines that have become a hallmark of the business. The bagel shop at 73 Greenwich Avenue has filed a lawsuit against BLDG Management, owned by Lloyd Goldman, to stop eviction proceedings. Goldman claims Apollo is violating its lease by allowing customers to block neighboring stores' entrances.
Apollo's rapid rise in popularity since opening three months ago has led to complaints from nearby businesses whose customers are being deterred by the long lines. Despite efforts to redirect the line and mitigate disruptions, Apollo remains at risk of eviction if it can't resolve the issue. The business claims it's working with neighbors to address concerns.
A lawyer for Apollo argues that Goldman is targeting the bagel store's success, while a neighbor expressed frustration, saying, "It's like World War II over what? Bagels?" As Apollo plans to expand to new locations, including Williamsburg and Jersey City, its landlord may not be the only one grappling with how to handle the situation.
