illionaire hedge fund manager Ken Griffin is continuing to offload his remaining Chicago residential holdings. Just two days after securing a buyer for the 38th-floor penthouse at No. 9 Walton, Griffin has listed his 37th-floor penthouse on the market for $9 million, or $1,200 per square foot. The 7,500-square-foot condo is being sold unfinished, offering a blank slate for potential buyers.
Griffin purchased four floors in the tower, including the 37th floor, for a record $58.5 million in 2018. If it sells at the asking price, he would lose approximately $3.7 million on this unit alone. Griffin has faced similar losses on other properties in his Chicago portfolio, including units at the Waldorf Astoria and Park Tower.
Griffin's 38th-floor penthouse is also under contract for a significant loss, with an estimated sale price of $11 million compared to its original purchase price of nearly $21.2 million. Griffin relocated Citadel and his personal residence to South Florida several years ago, where he has invested heavily in ultra-luxury real estate. With an estimated net worth of $43 billion, according to Forbes, Griffin's Chicago divestment is part of a broader strategy to consolidate his assets.
