Biltmore Estate: A Grand American Mansion

Biltmore Estate addresses damage from Hurricane Helene in Asheville area.

T
he Biltmore Estate, America's largest home, has issued a statement regarding the extensive damage caused by Hurricane Helene in Asheville, NC, and surrounding areas. The estate expressed gratitude for public concern but emphasized that its property is not the only one affected.

While the main house, conservatory, winery, and hotels suffered minimal or no damage, other areas of the estate were severely impacted. Wind damage to grounds and structures is extensive in forested areas, while significant flooding and building damage occurred in low-lying areas like Biltmore Village and the farm.

Crews are working to clear roads and assess overall damage. The group sales office has seen significant damage, and floodwater from the French Broad River covers low-lying fields near Antler Hill Village. Unfortunately, some of the estate's animals were lost during the storm, but most are safe thanks to dedicated teams.

The estate remains closed as damage assessment and repairs continue, with a tentative reopening date set for at least October 15. Hurricane Helene left a trail of destruction across Asheville and its surroundings, severely impacting Biltmore Village and local businesses.

Biltmore's senior public relations manager, Marissa Jamison, asked the public to focus on the broader region's devastation and contribute to relief efforts if possible. The estate hopes for a swift recovery and looks forward to welcoming guests as soon as it is safe to do so.
