Boone County Offers Tax Relief for Seniors Starting April 1

Applications for Boone County Senior Tax Relief open April 1 for those 62+ by Jan. 1, not previously applying in 2023.

B
oone County is set to open its Senior Real Estate Tax Relief Program for new applicants on Tuesday, targeting those who turned 62 before January 1 and missed the previous year's deadline. Eligible seniors can submit their applications between April 1st and June 30th, with a hard cutoff at 5 p.m. on the final day.

Application materials are readily available online through ShowMeBoone.com or in-person at the Boone County Collector of Revenue's Office. Completed forms must be notarized and submitted to the Collector's Office during business hours or mailed to 801 E. Walnut. For added convenience, notary services are also offered from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays at the Government Center, as well as select local banks and libraries.

This program was established in response to Missouri General Assembly legislation and voter-approved Proposition 1 last year. It provides tax relief for Boone County residents aged 62 or older who own their primary residence and are responsible for its property taxes. Those already approved in 2024 will receive renewal applications by mail, which must be returned by June 30th to maintain eligibility.
