T
he Los Angeles property where Brittany Murphy died in 2009 is now on the market for $17.99 million. The actress was just 32 when she passed away due to a combination of pneumonia, anemia, and excessive prescription medication use. Her husband, Simon Monjack, met his end five months later under similar circumstances.
The property has undergone significant changes since Murphy's death. In 2011, her mother sold the original residence for $2.7 million, nearly $1 million below its purchase price from Britney Spears in 2003. The old home was demolished and replaced with a new six-bedroom, eight-and-a-half-bathroom mansion.
The current owners purchased the property in 2017 for $14.53 million and attempted to sell it for $17.99 million in 2019, but it ultimately sold for $12.2 million in late 2020. The listing price has been adjusted to $17.99 million after a brief stint at $18.99 million.
Rumors of paranormal activity have long surrounded the property. Britney Spears reportedly experienced a terrifying encounter during her time there and refused to return. Her former makeup artist claimed that Spears believed "bad spirits" were trying to harm her. Even Murphy's husband expressed concerns about the home, stating that his wife considered it "unlucky" and was planning to move to New York.
Despite its dark history, the property has undergone a stunning renovation, featuring a marble fireplace in the formal living room, floor-to-ceiling windows, and an infinity-edge pool. The listing describes the transformation as a "complete metamorphosis."
