ent hikes have been reported in eight of the 11 largest cities in California, while rents decreased in Santa Ana, San Diego, and Oakland. The biggest rent increase occurred in Bakersfield at 8%, followed by Los Angeles at 7% and San Jose at 6%. Fresno saw a 5% rise, San Francisco a 4% increase, Anaheim and Long Beach a 2% hike, and Sacramento a 1% rise.
In contrast, rents fell 4% in Oakland, 2% in San Diego, and 1% in Santa Ana. The typical California landlord now asks for $2,365 per month, up 2.3% from last year. Nationally, landlords in 89 cities saw a 1.7% increase in apartment rents over the past year.
In Southern California, Los Angeles rents rose 6.7% to $3,080, while Anaheim and Long Beach saw increases of 2.3% and 2.1%, respectively. San Diego rents rose 2.2% to $2,730, but Santa Ana rents fell 1.1% to $2,470. The largest rent gain was in Syracuse, New York, at 27%, while the biggest dip was in Minneapolis at 9.9%.
