A
private company, MAZL LLC, led by Joseph Burks, has acquired REcolorado, Colorado's largest multiple listing service (MLS). The sale was announced on September 27, with no disclosed price figure. Burks aims to make the MLS more subscriber-centric and simplify transactions for real estate professionals.
REcolorado will retain its brand identity despite being previously owned by the Denver Metro Association of Realtors (DMAR) and South Metro Denver Realtors Association (SMDRA). The new owner plans to collaborate with the existing team to strengthen the company, ensuring it delivers value to subscribers and their clients through innovative services that meet evolving industry needs.
The sale was met with controversy, particularly due to the shift from association ownership to private ownership. REcolorado leaders initially pushed back against the sale, but ultimately agreed to replace the board of directors and appoint an interim CEO. Association leaders denied profiting from the sale, stating proceeds would fund member benefits.
Burks' priorities include making REcolorado more subscriber-centric, safeguarding listing data, and providing tools that simplify real estate transactions. The DMAR and SMDRA expressed confidence in the acquisition, citing Burks' promise to create new opportunities for the real estate community.
