arren Buffett's HomeServices of America, a real-estate brokerage business owned by Berkshire Hathaway Inc., is reportedly considering a deal with Compass. According to The Wall Street Journal, Compass has offered to acquire HomeServices for an undisclosed price.
HomeServices operates around 820 brokerage offices and 270 franchisees, also owning Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices and Real Living. This potential acquisition comes as the home-buying sector consolidates, with recent deals like Rocket Companies' $1.75 billion purchase of Redfin Corp. expected to increase competition between Zillow Group and Rocket.
The consolidation trend in the industry suggests that large players are looking to expand their market share through strategic acquisitions.
