A
proposed apartment-and-retail building in downtown Des Plaines has been scrapped. Advent Properties, a Chicago-based real estate company, had planned to develop nearly 3 acres at 760 Lee St., which includes a parking lot and undeveloped land that was once home to commercial buildings.
The project would have featured 8,500 square feet of retail space on the ground floor, six stories of apartments, indoor and outdoor parking areas, and a public park. The city council had been scheduled to review the proposal in February after suggesting revisions in December, but Advent requested delays to adjust its plans.
After several postponements, the company withdrew its application on March 4 without explanation. A lawyer for Advent sent an email to city officials announcing the withdrawal, which was included in documents for Monday's city council meeting. Despite the setback, Advent will continue to explore development options for the property.
The city council is set to meet at 7 p.m. on Monday at city hall, where it will discuss the project and other matters. The meeting is open to the public and will be livestreamed online.
