DeSantis Gives $66M Miami Property to Trump for Library

Top Florida Republicans demonstrate their latest loyalty to Trump.

F
lorida officials announced Tuesday that they will dedicate almost three acres of downtown Miami land, adjacent to the historic Freedom Tower, for a future Donald J. Trump presidential library. Gov. Ron DeSantis and the state cabinet approved the transfer of a parcel valued at more than $66 million from Miami Dade College to the Trump Foundation, citing a greater public benefit and economic development. The move underscores Florida Republicans’ loyalty to the former president, who has made the state his political base.

The site sits on Biscayne Boulevard, surrounded by upscale condominiums, a waterfront park, and the Miami Heat arena. Miami Dade College has used the lot for staff parking. State law requires the governor, attorney general, chief financial officer, and agriculture commissioner to approve such gifts; the decision was made by that collective body.

The Donald J. Trump Presidential Library Foundation, Inc. will now control the property. Its trustees are Eric Trump, Michael Boulos (Tiffany Trump’s husband), and attorney James Kiley. Eric Trump announced on social media that the library will be “the greatest Presidential Library ever built.”

The location is next to the Freedom Tower, a Spanish‑Revival landmark that once housed a newspaper and later served as a refuge for Cuban immigrants. The tower, now a museum, has been a focal point for protests against Trump’s immigration policies. While Cuban Americans largely support Trump, his mass‑deportation agenda has caused some to question their allegiance.

Earlier this year, DeSantis signed a bill preventing local governments from blocking presidential library developments, preempting opposition in more liberal counties. Potential sites at Florida Atlantic University and Florida International University were also considered.
