aywood Hotels plans to build a 135-room, European-style hotel in Goodyear's new downtown area, developed by Globe Corp. and Red Development. The AC Hotels by Marriott will be located at Civic Square at GSQ, near the city hall and a 2-acre park. The hotel is expected to open next year and feature rooms for business and leisure travelers with amenities like a lounge, bar, restaurants, and meeting space.

The site was purchased by Baywood Hotels last month for $2.7 million, or $1.8 million an acre. According to BJ Patel, senior vice president of Baywood Hotels, the company chose Goodyear due to its vibrant growth and welcoming community. The GSQ downtown project totals 150 acres and includes a civic center, shops, restaurants, and homes.

The first phase of GSQ was completed in August 2022, featuring a new city hall, library, office building, and several restaurants and shops. Globe and Red have planned for additional businesses on the east side of GSQ, including two more restaurants and a specialty grocery store. The addition of AC Hotels is expected to create a unique destination in the Valley.

Baywood Hotels owns and operates over $1 billion in hotel assets, including AC Hotels in Downtown Phoenix and Tempe. The company's founder, Al Patel, started Baywood Hotels in 1975.
