Din Tai Fung, famed dumpling spot, opens in downtown Brooklyn

Taiwanese soup dumpling giant, known for weeks‑long wait, signs 20,000‑sq‑ft lease at The Brook.

B
rooklyn’s newest culinary landmark is set to open in the heart of downtown, bringing the famed Taiwanese soup dumplings that once filled Times Square to a new neighborhood. Din Tai Fung has secured a 20,000‑square‑foot space in The Brook, a 52‑story residential tower that is just beginning to welcome tenants. The building is a joint venture between the Witkoff Group and Apollo Global Management.

The Witkoff Group, founded by Steven Witkoff—who served as President Trump’s Middle‑East envoy and played a key role in the recent Israel‑Hamas peace accord—now operates under the daily leadership of his son, Alex Witkoff. The Brook, located at the intersection of Fulton Street and DeKalb Avenue, is the latest and one of the most ambitious projects in Brooklyn’s rapidly expanding residential scene, a boom fueled by recent rezoning that has added tens of thousands of units over the past decade and a half.

Designed by Beyer Blinder Belle, the nearly $500 million development will house 590 rental apartments and offer 30,000 square‑feet of amenities for residents. Din Tai Fung’s flagship on Broadway and West 51st Street, which opened in 2024, quickly became a sensation, filling a 450‑seat space that had long been vacant. The restaurant’s popularity stems from its meticulous 18‑step hand‑folding technique that creates a “golden ratio” of skin to filling, a detail highlighted in an August 2024 Post article.

While the Broadway location’s initial frenzy has cooled, reservations can still be secured with a few weeks’ notice, according to The Infatuation. Din Tai Fung is slated to open its Brooklyn outlet at The Brook in early 2027, promising to bring the same culinary excellence to a new, thriving community.
