San Francisco woman, Mary Fong Lau, is now accused of attempting to conceal her local property from the relatives of a family killed in a crash she was involved in last year. The relatives are suing Lau for wrongful death and could be entitled to compensation from her estate if they win.
Lau's Mercedes SUV crashed into a bus stop on March 16, 2024, killing Diego Cardoso de Oliveira, Matilde Moncada Ramos Pinto, their one-year-old son Joaquin, and three-month-old Cauê. Lau pleaded not guilty to felony vehicular manslaughter in July.
The parents of the victims had already sued Lau for wrongful death when they discovered she had transferred ownership of two San Francisco homes and a commercial building to Nevada-based companies in August. This move was allegedly made while facing the lawsuit, which is against state law. The new suit claims Lau fraudulently hid her assets from the grieving families seeking justice.
The victims' families are now suing to void the property transactions and prevent Lau from selling other assets. If Lau is found liable in the wrongful death case, her real estate portfolio would be considered when determining what compensation the plaintiffs receive.
