llen DeGeneres has made a roaring comeback with her new Netflix special "For Your Approval," but what she doesn't speak about is her lucrative side hustle: real estate. According to Realtor, the comedian has been snapping up homes and selling them off quickly, earning herself a respectable portfolio in California and beyond.
DeGeneres and her wife Portia de Rossi have been investing in real estate for years, with their first home being a Spanish bungalow in West Hollywood that they fixed up and flipped. They made a profit of $US2 million on the sale, which sparked DeGeneres' interest in real estate investing. Since then, they've bought and sold numerous homes, including a Hollywood Hills mansion that they sold to Will Ferrell for $US9 million.
The couple's most impressive home-flipping project was a 26-acre horse ranch in Thousand Oaks, California, which they renovated and sold for $US10.85 million, earning a profit of $US2.35 million. They've also flipped homes in Montecito, including a stunning 16-acre estate that they sold for $US34 million.
DeGeneres and de Rossi have made millions with their home-flipping projects, starting with a Beverly Hills villa that they bought for around $US16 million and sold three years later for $US35 million. They've also flipped homes in Montecito, including a 12,000-square-foot mansion that they sold to talent manager Scooter Braun for $36 million.
In recent years, the couple has continued to expand their real estate portfolio, buying and selling numerous homes in California and beyond. In 2022, they bought a $US70 million Tuscan-style mansion and an adjacent parcel of land in Carpinteria, which they sold two years later for $US96 million, making a profit of $US26 million.
DeGeneres' real estate empire has been built on her ability to spot undervalued properties and renovate them into stunning homes that sell for top dollar. Her success in the real estate market is a testament to her business acumen and her keen eye for design.
