Emmy-Winning Anchor Sells Charming Hamptons Estate for $11.8 Million

Shingled-Style Home at 38 Darby Lane Features Seven Bedrooms and 5½ Bathrooms on 1.95 Acres.

D
oug Johnson, a veteran Emmy Award-winning anchor with WABC News in New York, has listed his East Hampton home for $11.8 million, a reduction from its original asking price of $13 million in September. The charming 6,000-square-foot residence at 38 Darby Lane was once owned by bestselling author Gail Sheehy and features seven bedrooms, 5½ bathrooms, and sits on 1.95 acres.

Johnson shared the home with his late wife Liz Robbins, a Washington power lobbyist who founded the country's first woman-owned lobbying firm in 1977. The couple entertained high-profile guests, including Bill and Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, Paul McCartney, Jimmy Buffett, Billy Joel, Jon Bon Jovi, and Alec Baldwin.

The traditional shingled-style home boasts a light-filled open living and dining room with floor-to-ceiling windows, an eat-in country chef's kitchen, six fireplaces, and a screening room. The property also includes a pool, a 400-square-foot guest cottage, and a two-story garage/barn. The landscaped grounds feature rose of Sharon bushes and specimen trees.

Johnson purchased the home in 2007 for $4.2 million, and it has been listed with Sheila Smith of Corcoran.
