ark Kuehl, owner of Jim's Place in Slinger, announced that he will be reopening his business after closing its doors at 201 Kettle Moraine Drive South. The decision comes as the VFW Zunker-Held Post is not renewing their lease agreement due to increasing rent costs.
Kuehl expressed his disappointment and frustration with the situation, stating that the community has lost a beloved landmark. He credited the original owners, Jim and Brenda Herther, for establishing the business and praised them for creating a unique experience that drew customers from all over the world.
The iconic flavor burst cones were a signature item at Jim's Place, and Kuehl reminisced about how they would often have lines out the door, even in the hot summer months. He also shared stories of serving five generations of families, with many customers returning multiple times a week to share memories with their grandparents or parents.
Kuehl will be moving his business to Atwell's Pub, where he owns part of the establishment. The last day of operation for Jim's Place is scheduled for October 13, 2024, and an "End-of-an Era" party will be held from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The VFW plans to remodel the space and potentially find a new tenant. Anyone interested in leasing the property can contact Chris Ellenbecker at 304-400-3196.
