anny and Wendy Vogt's family finally found their permanent home in 1998 after seven moves in five years. A job transfer from Houston brought them to a family-friendly cul-de-sac at 4523 Swissvale Drive in Manlius, NY. The outgoing neighborhood and Fayetteville-Manlius schools were the initial draws, but the house itself quickly became the "perfect setting for endless family memories." With four bedrooms, two-and-a-half bathrooms, and 2,761 square feet of living space, the home offered ample room for family life.
The split staircase in the front foyer was a favorite spot for dramatic Halloween costume reveals and magical Christmas mornings. The backyard oasis, complete with patio, hot tub, and a unique "cove on the hill," provided ideal spaces for outdoor entertainment. The kitchen, renovated in 2009, featured Thomasville cabinetry, quartz counters, stainless appliances, and an induction cooktop.
The family room became a natural gathering place, while the front living room was initially a challenge due to its oddly shaped layout. Wendy, a retired schoolteacher, used it as a cozy study with built-ins, a window seat, and a quartz counter for remote learning during the pandemic. The primary bedroom had two walk-in closets and new Acacia hardwood flooring, while the primary bathroom featured a deep soaking tub, makeup desk, and a walk-in quartz shower.
The backyard was a wildlife sanctuary, with bunnies, chipmunks, and deer occasionally making an appearance. The deck had an extension built for a hot tub, which is staying with the property, along with a patio featuring a fire table. Danny and Wendy fondly remembered summers spent with their children and neighbors, including kid bike parades and evenings under a sky dotted with fireflies.
After decades of laughter and love, Danny and Wendy are now set to embark on their next chapter, moving closer to their grown children's families in North Carolina. Their beloved home is seeking a new family to fill its rooms with precious moments.
