FGE rejects protection for cartel behind illegal real estate seizures

Tulum, Q.R. -- State Attorney vows no protection for "Dispossession Cartel" operating in the state.

T
ulum, Q.R. — The State Attorney's Office (FGE) has announced that it will no longer provide protection to the "Dispossession Cartel," a group responsible for widespread property seizures in the state.

State Attorney General Raciel López Salazar urged victims of the cartel to file complaints against corrupt officials who operate within their own institution. At least a dozen businessmen from Tulum are currently fighting to recover properties seized through fraudulent means since June 2024.

López Salazar stated that his office will not shield criminal groups involved in real estate seizures, marking a departure from previous administrations. The areas most affected by the cartel's activities are Tulum, Playa del Carmen (Solidaridad), and Cancun (Benito Juárez).

Victims have described a sophisticated network of corruption that manipulates lawsuits to seize properties illegally. López Salazar pledged to personally assist those who want to file complaints against public servants obstructing justice.

"The message is clear: if you've been a victim, report it," López Salazar said, encouraging citizens to seek hearings or visit the Internal Affairs Prosecutor's Office.
