42-year-old man from Houston, Texas, Shamsud-Din Jabbar, was killed by police after driving his pickup truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street in New Orleans early Wednesday, resulting in at least 15 deaths and 35 injuries. Records show that Jabbar had previously lived in Georgia, where he earned a college degree in computer information systems from Georgia State University in Atlanta between 2015-2017.
Jabbar's background records reveal that he was involved in real estate and owned several properties in Georgia, including one in Thomson, McDuffie County. However, the property is no longer in his name, and an ex-wife who was affiliated with it has not been reached for comment. The ex-wife told TMZ that she divorced Jabbar in 2016 after five years of marriage.
Jabbar's employment history shows he worked for a real estate company in Marietta before moving to Texas, where he was associated with four different companies. He was twice divorced and a U.S. citizen who had previously served in the U.S. Army. According to FBI reports, Jabbar acted alone and intentionally targeted the crowd on Bourbon Street, aiming to "run over as many people as he possibly could," as stated by New Orleans Mayor La Toya Cantrell.
