Hydrogen Energy Meets Residential Development.

Charles Carey discusses CIG Renewables' forays into hydrogen production.

IG Renewables is exploring new energy solutions, including hydrogen production, as a complementary resource to its existing renewable energy portfolio. Founder Charles Carey aims to double the company's 2.5 gigawatts of operational and underway renewable energy by 2027.

Carey founded CIG Renewables in 2016 with the goal of creating a more sustainable future. The company has secured funding and permits for several major projects, reaching a milestone of 2 gigawatts in operational and under construction capacity. With ongoing projects and strategic expansions, Carey is confident they will meet or surpass their target.

CIG Renewables plans to expand its solar projects to states with high solar irradiance and supportive regulatory environments, such as Arizona, Nevada, and California. The main challenges in the solar production industry include regulatory hurdles, land acquisition, and grid integration. To overcome these challenges, Carey works closely with local governments and communities to navigate regulatory processes and secure necessary permits.

CIG Renewables is also exploring hydrogen production as a clean energy carrier. They have several pilot projects underway that focus on producing green hydrogen using renewable energy sources. The goal is to develop integrated systems where solar and wind power are used to produce hydrogen, which can then be stored and used as a flexible energy source.

When selecting locations for hydrogen production facilities, Carey considers factors such as proximity to renewable energy sources, availability of water resources, and access to infrastructure for storage and distribution. Government policy plays a crucial role in the development of hydrogen production projects, with incentives such as tax credits, grants, and subsidies reducing financial barriers to entry.

Real estate developers are beginning to integrate hydrogen production into their developments to enhance sustainability and energy independence. Safety is a paramount consideration when using hydrogen in real estate, requiring robust safety measures, proper storage and handling protocols, advanced leak detection systems, and fire suppression systems.
