T
he iconic "Home Alone" house in Winnetka, Illinois, has been sold for $5.5 million, slightly above its asking price of $5.25 million. The Georgian-style property, built in 1921 and renovated in 2018, boasts five bedrooms, six bathrooms, a modern kitchen, home theater, and indoor sports court.
The house, famously known as the McCallister family residence in the 1990 holiday classic "Home Alone," was listed in May 2024 and sold within a week. However, the deal didn't close until last Thursday after a seven-month wait due to the sellers' desire to host one final end-of-year party.
The property's new owners, represented by Lori Nieman of @properties Christie's International Real Estate, were drawn to its cinematic history and luxurious features. The home's recognizable details from the film remain intact, including the grand staircase Kevin McCallister famously sledded down.
Built in 1921 and renovated in 2018, the 9,100-square-foot estate sits just 20 miles north of Chicago and boasts a luxurious primary suite with a gas fireplace, walk-in closet, and spa-like bathroom. The property is also close to Winnetka's charming village center and Lake Michigan shores.
The new owners are eager to be stewards of this slice of movie history, with Nieman stating they plan to care for the home for years to come. This marks the first time the house has changed hands in over a decade since it was purchased by its previous owners in 2012 for $1.58 million through a trust.
