luxury home in West Des Moines, built by Ankeny custom home builder Kimberley Development, is set to hit the market for $3.3 million. The 4-bedroom, 7,376-square-foot "spec" home at 1576 S. Stonewood Drive was designed by founder and president Bill Kimberley as a model he would want to live in himself.

    With construction starting about 18 months ago and completing about a year later, the home is now ready for its new owner. According to Kimberley, the home's price point of $3.3 million is a value compared to other markets, such as Chicago or the West Coast, where similar homes would cost upwards of $7 million.

    The contemporary, multi-level house features heated floors in most areas, a five-car garage, and a covered patio and deck that bring the total living space under roof to 10,000 square feet. The home was designed with entertaining in mind, with a large party room on the second level that can accommodate up to 200 people.

    The main level of the home features a kitchen, living room, and laundry area, while the master suite is located on the first floor and includes a walk-in closet as big as a locker room. The home also features an elevator, which Kimberley believes will become more common in luxury homes due to its practicality for aging owners or guests.

    The top level of the home takes advantage of the hillside it was built into, with three bedrooms each feeling like private suites. The backyard has a built-in fire pit and room to build a pool near it. With 131 homes selling for $1 million or more in the metro last year, Kimberley Development is confident that this luxury home will appeal to buyers looking for a high-end property without the wait of custom construction.

    Rick Wanamaker, a luxury real estate agent who has tracked million-dollar home sales in the Des Moines area since 2004, confirmed that this home tops the list of costliest spec homes ever built in the metro.
