Penthouse at 1126 Fifth Ave. once owned by Oscar winners lists for $9.95 million.

P
aul Newman and Joanne Woodward's Manhattan penthouse has sold after a fierce bidding war involving multiple interested parties. The two-bedroom prewar home at 1126 Fifth Ave. was asking $9.95 million with monthly maintenance fees of $13,078.

The beloved Hollywood couple bought the top-floor residence in the early 1980s and made minimal changes over the years. Newman passed away in 2008, while Woodward, now 94, lives quietly in Westport, Conn., where they raised their three daughters.

Their daughters, Nell, Melissa, and Clea, are selling the property, which spans nearly 3,000 square feet and features two terraces with sweeping Central Park views. The sellers described it as a true retreat for their parents, who loved to enjoy New York from their penthouse perch.

The residence boasts original details such as high ceilings, herringbone wood floors, and woodburning fireplaces. It includes a library/bedroom, formal dining room, open kitchen with butler's pantry, and large living room with fireplace and baby grand piano.

Newman's Oscar-winning films include "The Color of Money," while Woodward won an Oscar for "The Three Faces of Eve." The couple also founded the SeriousFun Children's Network and Newman's Own Foundation. Their furniture and art were largely removed from the property, although some personal belongings remain.

The sale marks the first time the dwelling has been available in over four decades. The buyer will enjoy stunning views of Central Park and the reservoir, as well as a grand entrance to a 15-story limestone building designed by James E.R. Carpenter in 1925.
