S
earching for a home online has become increasingly easier thanks to the internet, allowing people to browse properties from the comfort of their own homes. However, finding the perfect property can be a daunting task due to the shortage of available houses on the market. Scrolling through endless listings often results in encountering unusual and unappealing properties that raise questions about how anyone could live there.

The Instagram account Bad Real Estate Pics showcases some of these bizarre examples, featuring everything from dancing poles in living rooms to cemeteries in backyards. For a dose of real estate humor, check out the account's offerings and share your thoughts.

According to realtor Barbara Thomas, high-quality photos are crucial in making a property stand out online. "Photos are often the first impression potential buyers get of a property," she says. Well-taken photos can create a sense of urgency to schedule a viewing and attract more attention than poorly lit or low-quality images. In fact, studies show that listings with high-quality images receive significantly more views and inquiries.

Thomas recommends using bright and well-lit shots to showcase the home's best features. "Clear and well-lit photos give a welcoming feel to the home," she says. Wide-angle pictures are also effective in showcasing the full layout of rooms and providing a better sense of space. Including high-quality exterior photos, highlighting key features like modern kitchens or spacious bathrooms, and staging the property virtually can all boost interest.

On the other hand, poor lighting, cluttered spaces, awkward angles, and overediting can all deter potential buyers. Thomas advises against using too many filters or heavy photo editing to make a property look better than it is in reality, as this can set buyers up for disappointment. Finally, she stresses the importance of providing plenty of photos, including shots of key rooms like the kitchen, living room, and bathrooms.
