Joel Grey Sells NYC Light-Filled Home for $7.6 Million

West Village unit at 495 West St features 3,068 sq ft and two bedrooms.

I
n a West Village waterside gem, Oscar- and Tony Award-winning actor Joel Grey has just sold his stunning condo for $7.6 million - a tidy $100,000 above its asking price. The 92-year-old thespian, father of actress Jennifer Grey, first set foot in this Cary Tamarkin-designed building back in 1999 when he purchased the unit for $1.57 million.

Grey's sleek, modern abode boasts an impressive 3,068 square feet of living space, though it's worth noting that he had cleverly reconfigured the layout to create a one-bedroom apartment with a studio. The property's pièce de résistance is its expansive great room, flooded with sunlight and boasting breathtaking views of Hudson River Park courtesy of those show-stopping 64-foot steel casement windows.

The buyer remains shrouded in mystery behind an LA-based shell company, Bring it Hudson LLC. Meanwhile, celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz made headlines last year when she sold her unit in the same building for a whopping $8 million - a tidy profit on her original purchase price of $6.5 million just two years prior.

Grey's impressive career has spanned decades, with notable highlights including his iconic turn as Master of Ceremonies in the 1966 Broadway production and 1972 film "Cabaret," as well as his direction of a Yiddish production of "Fiddler on the Roof." The listing broker for this sale was Corcoran's Tamer Howard.
