Kylli transitions to residential use at 2,600-unit Santa Clara urban development

Kylli gets approval to build 2,600-home urban village in Santa Clara with residential focus.

K
ylli has secured approval from the City Council to develop a 49-acre urban village in Santa Clara. The project, dubbed Mission Point, will feature 2,600 homes with an emphasis on residential living rather than office space.

The development plan includes 100,000 square feet of shops and restaurants, 10,000 square feet of childcare facilities, and 25 acres of parks and open spaces. Parking for the site will accommodate 9,400 cars, including 3,000 underground spots.

Initially, Kylli presented two options: one with 1,800 homes and 3 million square feet of offices, or another with 2,600 homes and 2.2 million square feet of offices. The council favored the latter option, which also includes 800 additional homes.

The project will be built in phases over a decade, with Kylli agreeing to a 10-year development agreement that can be extended for three five-year periods. Mayor Lisa Gillmor hailed Mission Point as a "valuable lynchpin" for area development, citing its potential to bring vibrancy and mixed-use dynamics to the area.

The site was previously slated for a Yahoo campus but has undergone significant changes since being sold to Kylli in 2017. The developer scaled back plans after concerns were raised about radar interference from proposed high-rise buildings.
