A
Spanish Colonial mansion in Los Feliz’s hills has just entered the market for $21.5 million, a price that would rank it among the neighborhood’s most expensive sales. The property, owned by Lydia Hearst—great‑granddaughter of William Randolph Hearst—and her husband, actor‑comedian Chris Hardwick, could set a new record. Sales above $20 million are usually confined to the upscale enclaves west of the 101, yet Los Feliz has seen blockbuster deals: the Hearsts’ 2013 purchase of the home for $11 million set a record that was later eclipsed by Angelina Jolie’s $24.5 million De Mille estate in 2017 and Brad Pitt’s $39 million Craftsman compound sale two years ago.
The house, called the Victor Rossetti Residence after the banker it was built for in the 1920s, was designed by pioneering architect Paul R. Williams. The 9,000‑square‑foot, two‑story home features coffered ceilings, ornamental ironwork, stained‑glass windows, and colorful tile. Inside are 10 bedrooms, 11.5 bathrooms, a wood‑paneled library, wine cellar, pub, and a hidden bookshelf door that opens to a lower level. The one‑acre grounds include a garden, koi pond, citrus grove, swimming pool, pool house, and guesthouse.
Sharon Hills of Rodeo Realty lists the property. The Hearst family has long owned California’s most impressive estates, from Hearst Castle in San Simeon to the former Hearst Estate in Beverly Hills and the 100‑room Santa Monica compound now the Annenberg Community Beach House.
