illionaire Marc Rowan's Duryea's Sunset Cottages in Montauk will finally open this Memorial Day weekend, after a delay last summer. The four cottages offer luxurious amenities, including 55-inch TVs, Sonos audio systems, and KLUFT Collection mattresses that can be customized to guests' preferences.

    Located on 1.2 acres of waterfront property overlooking Fort Pond Bay, the beachy, minimalist-style units feature clear cedar shingles, mahogany fascia, and teak decks with outdoor showers, hot tubs, and fire pits. Guests will have access to Duryea's restaurant, market, and boutique, which can deliver lobster rolls and other seafood delicacies right to their door.

    A standard two- to three-night stay in a cottage costs around $2,000 per night, making it an alternative to private East End house rentals that are facing challenges from town regulations and public perceptions. The cottages are commercial properties, exempt from residential rental permits, and were built with safety and conformity in mind.

    Guests can enjoy e-bikes, paddleboards, and snorkel gear to take advantage of the natural landscape, including the stunning sunsets over Fort Pond Bay. According to Alchemy Hospitality's managing director, Steven Jauffrineau, the resort offers a serene atmosphere that invites relaxation and rejuvenation.

    The property has been a Montauk landmark for decades, operated as a family seafood business since the 1920s. Perry "Skip" Duryea III, who sold it to Rowan, acknowledges that change was inevitable at legacy businesses like his. The new cottages are part of a larger trend of transforming long-standing enterprises with influxes of capital.

    Despite some delays and paperwork issues, Johnson is confident that the cottages will be ready for the season. With its unique blend of luxury amenities and natural beauty, Duryea's Sunset Cottages promises to be a sought-after destination for those looking for a high-end Hamptons experience.
