P
erched on the cliffs of La Jolla Bay, billionaire Darwin Deason's opulent mansion, dubbed "The Sandcastle," is a breathtaking architectural marvel that rivals Versailles in grandeur and luxury. With its prime location overlooking the Pacific Ocean, this 13,000-square-foot estate is set to shatter records as it hits the market for a staggering $108 million.
Deason, who made his fortune founding Affiliated Computer Services and selling it to Xerox for over $6 billion in 2009, extensively renovated the property, adding a guesthouse inspired by Versailles's Le Petit Trianon. The estate boasts intricate stone columns, expansive balconies, and its own private, elevated beach.
Inside, the mansion is a testament to old-world European elegance, featuring extravagant mosaics, marble floors, and rooms adorned with solid gold accents. Deason spared no expense in creating his vision of French luxury, hiring top designer Timothy Corrigan to craft custom furnishings and decor that rival those found in Hollywood elites' homes.
The estate spans 0.8 acres and includes 10 bedrooms, a pool, fitness center, private beach, and two cabanas. A grand living room features coffered ceilings and a wall of arched windows overlooking the bay, while a dining room seats 16 under a crystal chandelier with gold-leaf detailing.
Deason's attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the property, from the imported Georgia sand on the beach to the custom-made furniture and rugs. He even imported slate roof tiles for the boathouse from a Chinese quarry after selecting the perfect color and pattern.
Despite pouring an estimated $60 million into the property's construction, Deason admits he doesn't use the Sandcastle as much as his other homes, citing infrequent visits due to his busy schedule. The agents representing the property claim that its irreplaceable beach access and sea wall make it a one-of-a-kind opportunity in La Jolla history.
With its unparalleled luxury and breathtaking views, "The Sandcastle" is poised to set a new record for San Diego County real estate sales, eclipsing the current record of $44 million set earlier this year.
