atie Johnson is stepping down as chief legal officer at the National Association of Realtors after nearly two decades with the organization. A spokesperson confirmed her departure, citing 17 years of service that included heading the legal team for almost two years. Johnson's tenure was marked by significant cases, including the buyer agent commission lawsuits and sexual harassment litigation that shed light on NAR's culture.
The organization has not announced a replacement for Johnson, but Lesley Muchow, general counsel and vice president of legal affairs and antitrust compliance, is the most senior member of the legal team. With over 14 years at NAR, Muchow will oversee the transition.
As the association navigates this change, it emphasized ensuring business continuity and focusing on industry developments. Johnson's departure comes as she ranked 70th in the Swanepoel Power 200 list of influential people in residential real estate. She also provided guidance to NAR's 1.5 million members on practice changes resulting from the organization's settlement, which took effect August 17.
