AR CEO Nykia Wright addressed the organization's challenges at NAR NXT on Monday, receiving applause from nearly 1,000 Realtors. She highlighted efforts to tackle antitrust issues and repair relationships with brokerages.
To address antitrust concerns, NAR will work with an outside firm to identify potential risks and develop strategies for managing them. Wright emphasized the need to proactively manage these risks rather than reacting to each issue as it arises.
Wright also announced plans to appoint a special advisor to help re-establish brokerage relationships nationwide. This move aims to provide brokerages with support that allows them to focus on their competitive advantages, rather than duplicating NAR's services.
Regarding the three-way agreement and NAR's size, Wright acknowledged concerns about rules requiring agents to join Realtor organizations at multiple levels. She vowed to educate members and consumers about NAR's purpose and effectiveness, shifting the narrative from criticism of governance size to its impact.
NAR has hired a chief human resources officer, Sharon White, to help optimize talent placement within the organization. Wright emphasized the importance of this role in managing the ecosystem of 1.5 million members, thousands of volunteers, and just 300 staff members.
Wright also asked for continued support in promoting NAR's consumer guides, citing a meeting with the DOJ where they were accused of not educating consumers. She encouraged Realtors to distribute these guides to avoid similar criticism in the future.
