record-breaking six New Jersey zip codes have made it onto the list of the most expensive real estate in the country. According to Property Shark, this marks a significant increase from previous years, with the state consistently having two or fewer top-performing zip codes between 2016 and 2020.
Alpine, which has been on the list every year, saw its median sales price jump to $3.32 million, surpassing $3 million for the first time in Property Shark's data. A recent sale of a 20,000 square foot estate for $16.7 million likely contributed to this surge. The town's popularity among celebrities and athletes has driven up demand.
Deal in Monmouth County made a significant leap from 70th place last year to 32nd this year, with a median sales price of $2.95 million. Avalon in Cape May County rose from 56th to 41st, with a median sales price of $2.75 million. Mantoloking and Stone Harbor also made the list, ranking 59th and 70th respectively.
Short Hills was the final New Jersey zip code to make it onto the list, ranking 93rd with a median sales price of $1.955 million. Property Shark's data includes residential transactions that closed between January 1st and September 30th of this year, with at least five transactions per zip code considered.
Atherton, California retained its top spot as the most expensive zip code in the country for the eighth consecutive year, with a median sales price of $7.9 million. The Hamptons' Sagaponack and Water Mill came in second and third respectively.
