NJ Suburban Home Listed for $1 Garners Multiple $550K Offers

Brendan DaSilva planned to list his Newark investment property for a low price, letting the market determine its value.

A
Newark, New Jersey real estate broker made headlines yesterday by selling a colonial-style home for $550,000 after listing it for just $1. Brendan DaSilva's gamble paid off, with three offers pouring in within seven days.

DaSilva had listed his own investment property on the outskirts of Newark at the same price point last week as an experiment to see how the market would react. He received three $550,000 offers and said the sale was a success. "Thankfully, it worked out very well for us," he told The Post.

DaSilva's unconventional sales tactic was more than just a gimmick – it was an attempt to challenge traditional pricing methods in real estate. He's seen many homes being underpriced to create a sense of excitement among buyers, but DaSilva wanted to take it to the next level by listing his property at an absurdly low price.

The home, which DaSilva renovated with $100,000 worth of upgrades, included features such as a new kitchen, bathrooms, and a finished basement. Despite some criticism from fellow brokers who saw it as unethical, DaSilva's experiment was a hit, with interested buyers calling him every 10 minutes to inquire about the property.

In the end, DaSilva received three offers of $550,000, which he described as "a home run." The winning bid belonged to a Newark family that operates a food truck business.
