eal estate developer Kane Realty has submitted a rezoning request to build a 40-story tower in the North Hills area of Raleigh, according to the Triangle Business Journal. This comes after the firm met with residents weeks ago to discuss its plans for more development in the area.
Kane had previously pulled a similar rezoning request two years ago, which was reported by ABC11 Eyewitness News. Under current zoning laws, Kane is allowed to build structures up to 12 stories tall on four separate parcels of land. The new proposal would see buildings ranging from 12 to 40 stories high on these sites.
One of the locations in question is at the intersection of Six Forks Road and Lassiter Mill Road, where an Exxon gas station, surface parking lot, and Wells Fargo currently sit. The proposed development would be commercial mixed-use, featuring retail and residential spaces.
Resident Joanne Henrich expressed her concerns about the potential impact on the neighborhood's character. "I love this area, but I want to know what these new buildings will look like," she said. "Will they be eyesores or will they fit in with the neighborhood feeling?" Kane Realty has yet to respond to ABC11 News' request for comment.
