Oregon's historic gold rush estate listed for $4.1 million with modern updates

The sale includes the historic McCully House Inn and a renovated event space at the adjacent Jacksonville Lumber Co. building.

T
he McCully House Inn, a Gold Rush era mansion in southern Oregon's Jacksonville, is for sale after its owners added an artisan bakery, pub, and other revenue-generating outlets to the property. The asking price of $4.1 million includes the boutique inn at 240 E. California St. and the nearby Jacksonville Lumber Co. building, which was planned as an event center.

Built in 1860, the two-story Classical Revival-style McCully House is Oregon's oldest home operating as an inn. Its storied past reflects the ups and downs of investing in Gold Rush towns. Dr. John Wilmer McCully fled creditors after building the mansion, leaving his wife Jane to rescue their family home from bankruptcy by renting rooms, opening a private school, and selling baked goods.

Today, the McCully House is part of the Jacksonville Historic District, a National Historic Landmark designation awarded for its well-preserved city. The boutique inn on a 0.7-acre lot features five guest rooms and four suites among its 6,055 square feet of living space.

Listing broker Alan DeVries notes that the property's prime location in southern Oregon's wine country makes it an attractive investment opportunity. "With its unique combination of history, prime location, and modern functionality, the McCully House Inn offers a rare chance to own a beautifully restored gem in one of Oregon's most charming towns," he said.

The Jacksonville Lumber Co. building expands possibilities for events, meetings, corporate retreats, and weddings. DeVries emphasizes that the property is "perfectly positioned" near the Britt Music & Arts Festival and minutes from the Rogue Valley International Medford Airport.
