reene County leaders in Missouri's Ozarks region are seeing significant increases in real estate prices, which is causing concerns among taxpayers about higher property taxes. Taxpayer Frank Gonzales expressed his frustration with the rising costs, saying that as a landlord, he has to raise rent to cover increased property taxes and insurance.
Gonzales also mentioned that he often disputes assessments on his properties at the Greene County Courthouse, working to reach a fair agreement. The county assessor, Brent Johnson, reported a 6% increase in median housing prices from September 2023 to September 2024.
Johnson noted that personal property taxes are starting to return to normal levels. Meanwhile, Greene County Collector Allen Icet said the senior tax credit program received over 15,000 applications, more than expected. Taxpayers can expect higher property taxes in 2025, with some increases reaching up to 10%. The deadline to pay property taxes is December 31, and late fees will be applied for payments made after that date.
