PayPal leases 90K sq ft at Domain in Austin tech hub

Big tech players like Google, PayPal, and Amazon are expanding or entering Austin's office market.

T
ech giants are making moves in Austin's office market. Google has put some of its 800,000 square feet at Block 185 back on the market, with 90,000 square feet available for sublease. This comes as Austin's office market recovers from a two-year slowdown.

Google leased the entire building before it was finished in 2021 but hasn't moved in yet. The company has shed space in other cities, and insiders say they're not aware of any official marketing efforts for Block 185.

PayPal is expanding its presence at Domain 2, adding 91,000 square feet to its existing 60,000 square foot lease. This brings the financial technology company's total space at the tower to nearly half of its 330,000-square-foot capacity.

Amazon has finally moved into its office space at Domain 9, which it leased in 2021. The company finished its buildout last month and is requiring employees to come into the office five days a week.

Austin's office market has seen a surge in leasing demand, with over 1.5 million square feet leased last quarter. However, this includes IBM downsizing from 500,000 square feet to 320,000 square feet at Domain 12. Around 350,000 square feet of new office space will come online before the end of the year, with half already preleased.

A JLL spokesperson confirmed that Google's subleased space is still available.
