amous photographer Annie Leibovitz has sold her 65-acre estate, dubbed The Hideaway, in Marin County's coastal town of Bolinas for $8.45 million. She initially listed the property at 605 Horseshoe Hill Road for just under $9 million in April after purchasing it in 2019 for $7.5 million.
Leibovitz had hoped to move back to Northern California with her children, who ultimately stayed in the Northeast. Despite this, she invested $2 million into the property during her five-year ownership, including renovations to the main four-bedroom home built in the 1920s and stone planting terraces.
The estate features a guest house, workshop, two-bedroom caretaker's residence, and a large riding arena with a horse-barn. It was previously owned by financier Warren Hellman, who transformed the property into a performance stage, events center, and recording studio. The buyer of Leibovitz's Bolinas property is Dogtown Farm LLC, managed by Karen Valladao.
Interest in the property was high, with requests for tours from buyers throughout the Bay Area, nationally, and internationally. Co-listing agents Nick Svenson and Alexander Lurie represented both the seller and the buyer. The new owner plans to preserve the estate's history as a creative hub, saying they are "passionate" about it and "excited to be its next steward."
