MR Group's 2024 Sustainability Report, "Value Built on Sustainability," showcases the company's significant strides in environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance. This comprehensive report highlights RMR's progress in integrating sustainable practices across its national portfolio, which includes properties managed for prominent clients such as Service Properties Trust, Diversified Healthcare Trust, and Sonesta International Hotels Corporation.
A notable achievement is RMR's early success in surpassing two key environmental targets. The company has not only met but exceeded its goal of diverting 50% of waste from landfills – a full year ahead of schedule. Additionally, 53.1% of RMR-managed square footage has been certified through the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program, four years ahead of the company's 2028 target.
"Sustainability is at the core of our value proposition," said John Forester, Vice President of Energy & Sustainability at RMR. "By prioritizing sustainability, we create value for our clients through higher tenant satisfaction, lower operating costs, and a reduced carbon footprint."
Forester emphasized the crucial role technology plays in RMR's sustainability success, citing the company's Connected Buildings platform as a key innovation. This centralized system enables real-time energy analytics and remote management of building systems, driving efficiency across the portfolio.
RMR's leadership in navigating emerging climate-related regulations has also been recognized. By leveraging its expertise in Building Performance Standards, the company has helped clients reduce operating expenses while mitigating policy risks.
Beyond environmental metrics, RMR received accolades for its workplace culture and property management standards. The company was named one of GlobeSt.com's 2024 Best Places to Work in Commercial Real Estate and holds a significant number of BOMA 360 designations among all property managers.
"Our continued momentum is a testament to our team's dedication and commitment to responsible management," Forester said, underscoring RMR's long-term focus on sustainability.
