MILE-UP., formerly known as Johnny & Associates, sold its Tokyo headquarters in Akasaka to Hulic in June, with plans to operate it as a long-term rental property. The sale was confirmed on September 24, but SMILE-UP. continues to lease the building as their headquarters.
The six-story triangular building, located near Nogizaka Station, has a rich history dating back to its construction in 2001. Originally owned by Sony Music Entertainment and known as the SME Nogizaka Building, it was the site of Nogizaka46's first-generation final auditions, inspiring the idol group's name.
After Johnny Kitagawa's founder misconduct came to light, the company rebranded as SMILE-UP. in October 2023, removing its prominent signage from the building earlier that month. As part of their efforts to address past wrongdoings, SMILE-UP. has been handling compensation measures for victims of Johnny Kitagawa's sexual abuse.
