A
viral TikTok post by a San Francisco real estate agent has sparked controversy over the definition of the Bay Area. Erik Throm, who claims to be one of the top 1% Realtors in the city, shared his opinion on what constitutes the Bay Area in a February 8th post.
According to Throm, the northern boundary of the Bay Area ends at the Sonoma-Marin county line, excluding Sonoma and Napa counties. However, the Association of Bay Area Governments defines the Bay Area as the nine counties surrounding San Francisco Bay, including Sonoma and Napa.
Throm's post has garnered over 432,000 views and 1,500 comments on TikTok, with many users disagreeing with his definition. Some argued that Sonoma County touches the bay and should be considered part of the Bay Area. Others claimed that Santa Rosa and Fairfield are also part of the region.
The debate highlights the subjective nature of defining geographic boundaries. While Throm's opinion may not align with official definitions, it has sparked a lively discussion among TikTok users.
