Dolton landlord, Genetta Hull, sought the help of a judge to serve eviction papers on Mayor Tiffany Henyard and her co-tenant, Kamal Woods. The pair allegedly owe over $3,350 in unpaid rent and late fees at their residence on Harvard Street. Hull claimed that Henyard and Woods have been "elusive" and had changed the locks, preventing her from conducting inspections and repairs.
Cook County Sheriff's Police officers attempted to serve the eviction notice at both the residence and Dolton Village Hall without success. The judge, Carrie Hamilton, acknowledged that she didn't know who Henyard was. Attorney Beau Brindley previously argued on Henyard's behalf that the eviction case lacked good faith and proof of missed payments.
Henyard and Woods have been renting the property month-to-month since their lease expired in May 2023. Hull cited nonpayment and refusal to allow inspections as grounds for terminating the lease. The situation is further complicated by a federal investigation into Henyard's work with Thornton Township, where she supervises a youth assistance program.
