A
piece of California music history is back on the market, and it's a real rockstar. Tom Petty's former Malibu estate has been listed for $15.49 million, a discount from its initial listing price.
The late singer-songwriter and guitarist was known for his iconic hits like "Free Fallin'" and "I Won't Back Down." He also co-founded the Traveling Wilburys with legends Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, George Harrison, and Jeff Lynne. Petty passed away in 2017 at 66.
The Mediterranean-style retreat, which spans 2.6 acres, has been untouched by wildfires that ravaged parts of Southern California. The 8,744-square-foot single-story home features a private entrance on a double-gated street above Escondido Beach and Paradise Cove.
Inside, the property boasts hand-painted Spanish tiles, carved skylights, vintage chandeliers, and five fireplaces. A music studio converted from a guest house is pre-wired and acoustically designed. The eat-in chef's kitchen anchors the home, while a "romantic" main bedroom suite adds to its charm.
The property also includes an additional one-bedroom guest house, staff quarters, and parking for around 15 vehicles. Outside, there's a pool, fire pit, koi ponds, waterfalls, and a sport court for basketball and pickleball. The listing brokers are Myra Nourmand and Levi Freeman of Nourmand & Associates.
