A
new development has emerged in the long-standing feud between President Donald Trump and New York State Attorney General Letitia James. A criminal referral letter, obtained by NY1, accuses James of falsifying bank documents and property records on multiple occasions.
The letter, written by Trump's federal housing director, suggests that James may have committed mortgage fraud to secure better loan terms for homes she purchased in 1983 and 2000. In these transactions, James is listed as her father's wife instead of his daughter. Additionally, a Virginia home she bought with her niece in 2023 was incorrectly listed as her primary residence.
The Justice Department has confirmed receipt of the letter and will review it. Governor Kathy Hochul has come to James' defense, stating that any allegations of mortgage fraud are likely exaggerated and lack intentionality. A spokesperson for James responded by saying she remains focused on protecting New Yorkers and will not be intimidated by Trump's actions.
