Unconventional Home Staging: Using Unusual Props to Boost Sales

Dinosaur-themed decor helps sell NH homes in surprising trend.

I
n an effort to spice up the home selling process, realtor Jonathan Benton suggested staging a New Hampshire property with an inflatable dinosaur model. The 3-bedroom, 3-bathroom home is now listed on Zillow with 13 photos featuring the dinosaur in various scenarios around the 2,981 square foot property. In one image, the dinosaur swings from a backyard tire; another shows it baking cookies in the kitchen.

Benton's inspiration came from his favorite movie, Jurassic Park, and he believed the dinosaur character would appeal to a wide range of people without infringing on copyrights. He hopes this creative approach will re-energize the real estate industry, which often features repetitive and dry listings.

This isn't Benton's first time using the inflatable dinosaur; he successfully sold a home in Nashua, N.H., with the same concept last September. The listing has garnered attention on social media platforms, including over 600 shares on Zillow Gone Wild's Facebook page.

Homeowner Sarah Rocca said seeing her friends' reactions to the listing took some of the stress off selling her property. Benton is considering other creative staging options and hopes others will follow suit. His brokerage, East Key Realty, has been supportive of his unconventional approach.
